Release date: Sept. 16, 2005 Emory's Franklin Calls for Unity in Helping Katrina Victims
The organization is partnering with the Atlanta Food Bank; Concerned Black Clergy; Faith and the City, which includes Emory's Candler School of Theology; Hands On Atlanta; the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta; and many other metro and Georgia-based groups to "rescue, restore and renew" the displaced people and communities of the gulf region. Franklin also urged congregations to lead dialogues on "how we can become one people under God" and called for the mayor and governor "to convene conversations and town hall meetings that include every segment of our diverse communities." The council also is planning a metro-wide worship service at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 at First Presbyterian Church. For more on Franklin's call to unity, click here.
