Kiplinger's Names Emory a Best Value

Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine has ranked Emory University ninth among the 100 best values in private universities. The annual private school rankings appear in Kiplinger's April 2008 issue and at www.kiplinger.com.

In January 2007, Emory was one of the first schools in the nation to announce generous tuition breaks with the launch of Emory Advantage which reduces debt burden for families with annual incomes of $100,000 or less that demonstrate a need for financial aid. The program includes grants instead of loans for families with an assessed income of $50,000 or less, and a $15,000 loan cap for families with incomes up to $100,000. Emory also is one of only about 40 schools in the nation that are completely need-blind for domestic students.

"We're pleased to see Emory recognized for its outstanding academic excellence and our strong commitment to make an Emory education affordable for qualified students," says Jean Jordan, Emory's dean of admissions.

Selected from a pool of more than 1,000 private institutions provided by Peterson's, schools in the Kiplinger 100 were ranked according to academic quality and affordability, with quality accounting for two-thirds of the total.

Kiplinger's Top 10 Best Values include:

1. California Institute of Technology
2. Yale
3. Princeton
4. MIT
5. Rice
6. Harvard
7. Dartmouth College
8. Duke
