Emory Law School student Doug Nevin will make his New York City theatrical producing in May with renowned playwright Craig Lucas' adaptation of August Strindberg's "Miss Julie."

The play will run at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, starring stage and television star Marin Hinkle (NBC's "Two and a Half Men," ABC's "Once and Again"). Anders Cato directs the play. "Miss Julie" is the crown jewel of Rattlestick's 10th anniversary season and a prime candidate for a commercial production in New York.

"Having long admired Craig's work--including 'Prelude to a Kiss' and 'Reckless' on Broadway, and 'Longtime Companion' and 'The Secret Lives of Dentists' on film--I am thrilled to be a part of the team that will bring this insightful and biting new translation of Strindberg's classic to the stage," says Nevin, a third-year law student. "In particular, I couldn't be prouder to be working with a theater so committed to the creation, development and production of new plays."

A native New Yorker, Nevin has a longstanding interest in creating theater. "I've always wanted to help make it possible, to be sure that certain stories were being presented to an audience. I came to law school partially to explore the legal aspects involved," he says.

During the summer after his first year in law school, Nevin interned with a Broadway production office, working on the Tony Award-winning run of "Take Me Out." He also has worked with Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, and recently published an article, "No Business Like Show Business: Copyright Law, the Theater Industry, and the Dilemma of Rewarding Collaboration," in the Emory Law Journal.

Next year Nevin will join a general practice firm focusing on litigation. Still, he has a particular interest in intellectual property law and hopes to use his law degree to promote the arts. "I'd like to explore the intersection of law and the arts, and lawyers' responsibilities to promote artistic development."
