Release date: April 21, 2004 Emory Expands International Initiatives
In announcing the appointment, Emory President James W. Wagner said, "Emory aspires to be recognized as a truly global university, with strongly collaborative programs across schools and disciplines. Tom's leadership in creating and implementing a strategy for our international endeavors will move Emory forward in achieving our vision." Robertson will step down as Goizueta dean in January 2005 and, after a brief sabbatical, will assume new responsibilities as chairman of a special strategic planning subcommittee focusing on international initiatives. "My challenge will be to create a strategy for 'Emory International,' in concert with Emory's Vice Provost for International Affairs Holli Semetko, and to coordinate implementation of this new approach across our schools, centers, institutes and programs," says Robertson. Before taking the helm of Goizueta Business School in July 1998, Robertson was the deputy dean at London Business School, the graduate school of business at the University of London, where he was responsible for the school's portfolio of world-class degree and executive education programs. While there he created the Marketing Leadership Forum as a joint venture executive program with Duke University's Fuqua School and launched a television initiative with Financial Times Television that aired on CNBC in Europe. He also was the inaugural Sainsbury Professor and head of the marketing faculty. Robertson earned his Ph.D. at the Kellogg School (Northwestern University), and has held academic positions at Harvard Business School, UCLA, The Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania) and London Business School. A search for the next dean of Goizueta Business School is under way. ###
