Emory Forum Examines Spirituality & Health

WHAT: Harold G. Koenig, a scientist renowned for his research into the relationship of health and religion, will be the featured speaker at Emory University's fifth annual Symposium on Science and Religion. Charles Raison, assistant professor of psychiatry at Emory, and Gary Gunderson, director of Emory's Interfaith Health Program in the Rollins School of Public Health, will offer responses. Koenig also will be speaking during an interfaith worship service that same evening. Music will be provided by the Meridian Chorale, with music director Steven Darsey and Timothy Albrecht, Emory University organist.

WHEN: Tuesday, Feb. 17. Luncheon noon-1:30 p.m. The interfaith worship service will begin at 8 p.m.

WHERE: Luncheon will be held at Emory University's Cox Hall Ballroom. An interfaith worship service will be held in Emory's Cannon Chapel.

PARKING: Visitor parking available in the Peavine Parking Deck, 27 Fraternity Row.

Harold Koenig is associate professor of medicine and psychiatry and founder and director of the Center for the Study of Religion/Spirituality and Health at Duke University Medical Center. He has published extensively in the fields of mental health, geriatrics and religion. His research has been featured on national and international television and radio news programs and in more than 20 newspapers and magazines. Koenig has been nominated twice for the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion. His latest books include "The Healing Power of Faith: Science Explores Medicine's Last Great Frontier," "The Handbook of Religion and Health" and "Spirituality in Patient Care."
