Helen Thomas to Speak at Emory March 31

In honor of National Women's History Month, the Center for Women at Emory presents "An Encore Evening with Helen Thomas" at 7 p.m., Monday, March 31, in the Tull Auditorium of Emory Law School, 1301 Clifton Road.

Known as "the First Lady of the Press," former White House bureau chief Helen Thomas broke barriers for women reporters while covering every president since John F. Kennedy. During that first White House assignment, she began closing presidential press conferences with the memorable words "Thank you, Mr. President."

For 57 years, Thomas was White House correspondent for United Press International. She joined Hearst Newspapers as a syndicated columnist in 2000, and remains an active reporter and social critic. The most recent of Helen's four books is "Watchdogs of Democracy?: The Waning Washington Press Corps and How It Has Failed the Public."

The event is free and open to the public. A book signing and reception will follow her talk. Parking is available in the Lowergate South deck, 1717 Lowergate Drive.
