OVERVIEW
EIRS is a web-based computerized system that replaces
paper Incident forms. You should use EIRS to report the following:
- incidents & omissions
- medical variances
- complaints
- near-misses (issues that are caught before impacting
patient care but, if they were to reoccur, could cause harm)
- general concerns that do not involve a specific
patient but could cause harm to a patient, and
- concerns about staff or physician behavior which
could impede patient care, safety, and service, including verbal
abuse (unwarranted yelling, swearing or cursing; threatening,
humiliating, or sexually explicit language) and physical
abuse or violence, including sexual harassment
EIRS is NOT for
reporting workers’ compensation
matters or staffing issues that do not impact patient care.
EIRS does NOT change the way you care for your patients. You should
continue caring for your patients in accordance with Emory Healthcare
policies and procedures.
Because EIRS is easier and faster, we hope to increase the number of
reported incidents. When in doubt, report!
