Compassion for Japan

March 15, 2011

To the Emory community,

As we see images and hear stories coming out of Japan since last Friday, we cannot help wanting to exercise compassion in the face of the unfolding disaster there.

Our thoughts also turn naturally to questions about our own community members. Emory has to date confirmed that all of its known community members in Japan are safe, and we are grateful for that. Nevertheless, in the coming days and weeks our thoughts and prayers will be with the people of Japan and with their friends and relatives across the world who are touched by the catastrophe.

Many members of the Emory community have asked how to reach out and provide support. The University encourages people to contribute to international relief agencies working in affected areas. Websites of some major relief agencies are listed here and can be used to make donations.

In the meantime, I am grateful for the level of concern expressed by our community and encourage your continued prayers and support for the people of Japan.

Sincerely,

Jim Wagner
President
