During his more than 39-year career with MetLife, Inc., Mr. Henrikson held a number of senior positions in the company’s individual, group and pension businesses. He was president and chief executive officer of MetLife, Inc. and Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. from March 2006 through May 2011. He served as a director of MetLife, Inc. from April 2005, and as chairman from April 2006, through December 2011.
In July 2010, Mr. Henrikson was appointed by President Barack Obama to the President’s Export Council, the principal national advisory committee on international trade. Mr. Henrikson is a former chairman of the American Council of Life Insurers, a former chairman of the Financial Services Forum, a director emeritus of the American Benefits Council, and chairman of the board of the S.S. Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education. In addition to serving on Emory University's Board of Trustees, he serves on the boards of directors of Invesco Ltd., Swiss Re Ltd., the New York Philharmonic, the Partnership for New York City, AmeriCares, and Indian Springs School. He has served as a Trustee of the American Museum of Natural History and the New York Botanical Garden.
Mr. Henrikson earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Emory University School of Law. In addition, he is a graduate of the Wharton School’s Advanced Management Program.
He was elected as an alumni trustee in 2007 and a term trustee in 2012.
