Neal Purcell retired in January 2002 from KPMG, which he joined as an accountant upon his graduation from Emory and where he became a partner in 1972. He was a member of the firm’s board of directors and served as the area managing partner for the Northwest and the Southeast regions. Relocating to New York in 1998, he served as vice chairman of operations for the firm’s national audit practice.
A charter member of the Goizueta Business School Advisory Board, Mr. Purcell also chaired the Emory Alumni Campaign and was a member of the Board of Visitors. Elected to the Emory Board of Trustees as an alumni trustee in 1997, he was elected a term trustee in November 2002. He served as the commencement speaker for the 2008 Emory at Oxford graduation ceremony.
He currently serves on the boards of directors of Southern Company in Atlanta; Synovus Financial Corporation in Columbus, Georgia; and Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California.
