Race and Difference

The Race and Difference Initiative (RDI) draws upon Emory's special academic strengths, the strong relationship between its various schools, and the University's distinctive place in Atlanta to bridge if not transcend divisions of understanding: (1) between race and other forms of stigmatizing difference; (2) between different disciplinary forms of knowledge; and (3) between scholarly and critically applied understandings of race and stigma.

RDI's programs include:

  • African American Graduate Program
  • Living Across Borders
  • Crossing Boundaries to Build Community
  • FUSION
  • Less Commonly Taught Languages
  • Public Humanities
  • Race and Southern Studies
  • Screening Race and Difference
