Members of the President’s Commission on the Status of
Minorities (PCSM) met briefly on Monday, Nov. 29, in 400 Administration.
Jody Usher, conference and events chair, reported the group’s
spring diversity seminar will be held in March and is tentatively
titled “Diversity as Value Added.” Usher said the President’s
Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) and the President’s
Commission on LGBT Concerns have both been invited to cosponsor
the half-day symposium.
Chair Nagueyalti Warren said she is working on a study of all minorities
at Emory. Brenda Seiton suggested the group contact Daniel Teodorescu
of Institutional Planning and Research, who helped the PCSW gather
data for a study concerning women faculty and tenure. Warren said
she also will be contacting Human Resources for data.
Stanley Taylor of the student concerns committee said the group
is scheduled to meet with President Bill Chace regarding issues
between minority students and guest speaker David Horowitz, a conservative
columnist whovisited Emory in October. He said the committee would
report back to PCSM regarding the meeting.
PCSM will meet again on Jan. 27 in 400 Administration at 3 p.m.
