ITD switches to Norton virus protection
The Information Technology Division (ITD) recently announced that Symantec/ Norton Anti-Virus will replace McAfee as the new desktop and server antivirus product at Emory. The decision to license the Norton product was made after months of research and analysis by ITD and campus IT staff.

The new product now is licensed for all Emory and Oxford students, faculty and staff for both campus and home computers. It is essential that all Emory individuals install the new software as soon as possible and no later than Dec. 31.

An automated installation is included with the Fall 2003 Emory Online tool, which is available on CD or it can be downloaded from
http://software.service.emory.edu
. This tool also uninstalls the old McAfee software.

Before installing/uninstalling your software, individuals should contact their department local support representatives for a specific installation schedule and guidance. Certain departments may have unique considerations.

McAfee Anti-Virus no longer will be distributed, however to assist the community, the service to download antivirus updates (DAT files) for McAfee will be continued through Dec. 31.

For more information, please contact the ITD help desk at 404-727-7777.
