LIPSTADT PART OF U.S. AUSCHWITZ DELEGATION
Deborah Lipstadt, Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies, was a member of the presidential delegation to Poland that attended the 60 th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on Thursday, Jan. 27.

The delegation was led by Vice President Dick Cheney and included Lipstadt, Nobel Peace Prize-winning author and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, and others.

Lipstadt is author of Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory , the first full-length study of those who attempt to deny the Holocaust.

In 2000, Lipstadt decisively won a libel trial in London against a Holocaust denier who sued her in a British court. Lipstadt's latest book is an account of her legal triumph, titled History on Trial, and is set for publication Feb. 4.

Tickets are available for the 2005 Unsung Heroine Awards, Thursday, Feb. 17, in Miller-Ward Alumni House. The awards, presented by the Center for Women, honor women who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to women's issues yet have not received formal recognition.
