Johns chairs search
for new senior VP
BY ron sauder
President Wagner announced last week that Michael M.E. Johns, the executive vice president for health affairs and chancellor-designate of the University, will chair the search for a successor to Johnnie Ray, senior vice president for development and university relations.
Ray is leaving Emory to become president and CEO of the Arizona State University Foundation in Tempe. The Foundation is the entrepreneurial arm of ASU, directing fundraising, real estate and technology transfer activities for a 60,000-student university whose ambition is to grow to 90,000.
“Johnnie will have a huge set of responsibilities and every opportunity to display the talents that have served Emory so well for the past two and a half years,” Wagner said in an announcement of the transition to the Administrative Council and DUR staff.
He added that during the interim period
until a new senior vice president is appointed,
“I will turn more of my attention to close involvement in the leadership of DUR, to ensure that we maintain the energy and momentum we have developed in the campaign. Let me assure you of my own confidence in the strong professional team at all levels in DUR. In addition, the volunteer leaders of our campaign — Sonny Deriso, chair of the overall campaign, and Rusty French, chair of leadership gifts — continue to be strongly committed to our success over the long haul. With last week’s Woodruff gift, we are actually well ahead of projections for this point in the silent phase.”
