Briefs

Four-time alumnus named alumni VP
Robert Pennington has been named vice president for alumni affairs and special development projects, effective Jan. 16, 2001. He replaces Jack Gilbert, associated vice president for planned giving and leadership development, who is retiring in May 2001 after 21 years at Emory.

Pennington will oversee the alumni office, the parent program, the annual fund, the career network service and, after Gilbert’s departure, planned giving.

“I am thrilled that Bob has decided to serve his alma mater in this manner,” said Bill Fox, senior vice president for institutional advancement. “Bob has already been serving Emory superbly for years as a volunteer in almost every imaginable capacity, but he will now join the Emory team in a full-time position. He will be making a considerable personal sacrifice to serve his alma mater, which only demonstrates his great loyalty to and love for Emory.”

Pennington has been a partner at the law firm of King & Spalding since 1989.
