Emory Magazine launches iPad app

There’s a new icon in the Apple iTunes store, and it says Emory Magazine.

This summer, the Emory Magazine staff worked with Digital Media Group (DMG) to create an iPad application for the alumni magazine. The app offers the complete print version as well as “bonus” multimedia content, such as embedded videos and podcasts related to the articles.

Emory’s Office of Communications and Marketing was “very interested in seeing Emory have a presence on the iPad,” explains Emory Magazine Editor Paige Parvin. “Since DMG had experience with converting digital publications to apps, it seemed like a natural to give it a try with Emory Magazine, and we’re very happy with the results.”

Since the app was launched in August, there have been more than 530 downloads by iPad users. Currently the summer and autumn 2010 issues are available, and each new issue will be posted to the app around the time the print version appears. Emory Health magazine also is planning to launch an iPad app early next year.

You can find Emory Magazine in the iTunes app store and online at www.emory.edu/magazine.
