Focus/responsibilities at the Center
My role with the Center is to increase the number and diversity of compounds in molecular libraries that are warehoused here at Emory. I offer guidance based on my experience in the areas of identifying and optimizing lead compounds from high throughput screening. In my additional role as chemistry outreach coordinator, I help our partners at NIH raise awareness of Roadmap initiatives among chemists in colleges and universities.
Educational/professional background
For more than 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry, I participated in chemistry research on a number of diseases including cardiovascular and neurological disorders, inflammation, allergy, infectious diseases, and oncology. That is where I honed my ability to deliver and advance novel, potent small molecule pharmaceutical agents against a range of target types: HIV reverse transcriptase, bacterial cell wall synthesis, G-coupled protein receptors, protein kinases, and matrix metallo-proteases. I have also been involved in implementing cutting-edge chemical synthetic techniques-such as parallel, solid phase, combinatorial and microwave chemistries-to accelerate the medicinal chemistry component of the drug discovery process.
