Conference examines marriage, sex and the family: Former provost and current Colgate University President Rebecca Chopp returned to Emory March 27–29 to speak in the “Sex, Marriage and Family and Religions of the Book: Modern Problems, Enduring Solutions” conference, sponsored by the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Religion (CISR). Chopp appeared in a March 29 panel discussion that was moderated by President Bill Chace and CISR Director John Witte. The three-day event (see story, page 5) drew some 70 scholars and 600 attendees to 35 presentations that examined marriage and family from a wide array of disciplinary perspectives.Click here or above for the full story. In a March 29 ceremony marking the completion of Emory's Habitat for Humanity project, JoAn and President Bill Chace (from left) presented homeowner Consuela Pippins, with help from Habitat board member Linda Parrish and site leader John-Paul Chandonia, a framed rendering of the Emory gate to hang up on her (new) wall. Pippins also received t-shirts for herself and her children, and a $100 gift certificate to Home Depot. The seven-week build, which the retiring Chace requested to bookend a nine-year University presidency that began with a similar Habitat project, drew some 275 volunteers from the University community.
