Glenn Chancel Choir to perform

The Glenn Chancel Choir will perform a concert of sacred music Sunday, March 7 at 4 p.m. in Glenn Memorial Church.

The hour-long concert features music for soloists, organ, chorus and string orchestra, beginning with Passion meditations by Heinrich Schütz, sung by a chamber choir of Chancel Choir members. Music professor and University organist Timothy Albrecht will play three preludes and fugues of J. S. Bach on Glenn’s Casavant organ. The orchestra includes Emory’s Quartet-in-Residence, the Vega String Quartet.

The program concludes with Ralph Vaughan Williams’ cantata “Pilgrim’s Journey,” a distillation of the composer’s monumental opera based on John Bunyan’s work. The Chancel Choir is directed by Steven Darsey, Glenn director of music and a former Candler School of Theology faculty member. The concert is free but an offering will be taken.
