Starting a green conversation in health care

Promoting sustainable practice in health care institutions is the topic of a free conference Friday, March 26, from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the School of Nursing.

“Greening Healthcare: Sustainable Practice in Atlanta” is designed to raise awareness among healthcare practitioners, administrators and students, while exploring challenges and resources unique to Atlanta. The networking forum will facilitate sharing suggestions, challenges, ideas and potential solutions on sustainability issues in the workplace.

Other goals are to encourage educators to incorporate sustainability into their courses and program curricula and foster connections with local vendors and organizations that promote sustainability.

Speakers will include Howard Frumkin, CDC special assistant to the director for climate change and health; Linda McCauley, dean of the nursing school; A.B. Short, co-founder and CEO of MedShare; and Emory Director of Sustainability Initiatives Ciannat Howett.

Register for the conference as seats are limited.

In keeping with the spirit of the event, registration and conference materials are available online; composting and recycling for food service waste will be provided; and alternative transportation to the conference encouraged.
