December 15, 2010
As professor emeritus of religion Eugene Bianchi celebrates his 80th year of life, he’s also reflecting on the substance of his time on earth so far: his Italian-American upbringing, his time in the Jesuit priesthood, his 32-year career at Emory, his successful and failed relationships, and his gradual shift to a “trans-traditional” experience of religion and spirituality.
Bianchi tells the story of his life in a new memoir, “Taking a Long Road Home” (Wipf and Stock, 2010). He uses the journals he’s faithfully been writing in since 1958 to provide lush details of the ups and downs of a life of spirituality and scholarship.
