FAQs
This section is still in development. It will be a growing FAQ covering the most frequent problems an NMR user may encounter.
- Q: I have broken an NMR tube inside the NMR spectrometer - what should I do?
- A: Stop right there! Put a note saying the machine is out of order and call Dr. Wu. Do not try to get your tube out by yourself—you can damage the probe. Sample fate: possibly, some or all of your sample still can be recovered.
- Q: Type 'ga' or 'h1' nothing happened or 'The acquisition window shows 'inactive', rather than 'idle'?
- A: Lost communication between computer and console. Open a shell by clicking the console icon on the top right of the screen, then type 'su acqproc'. The communication will be re-established. In the command line type 'h1' to make sure everything is OK.
- Q: I could not find lock signal?
- A: Is your sample dissolved in deuterated solvent? If yes, check the Z0 value for your solvent, then set the Z0 in the Lock Window. If you still cannot find a signal, call for help.
- Q: After I clicked spin on, the sample is still not spinning?
- A: Eject your sample, clean the spinner, and try again. If not, you could still acquire a spectrum, but you should notify Dr. Wu.
- Q: How to transfer my data from Sun Workstation to my PC?
- A: Use the NMR center's PC and FTP the data from the Sun Workstation. Detailed instructions are available near the PC in RM210.
