Sr. Associate Dean Dr. Andy Wilson Announces Resignation

January 21, 2015

Dr. Andy Wilson, Senior Associate Dean for Emory’s Division of Campus Life, has announced his resignation. Andy has accepted the position of Dean of Academic and Student Services at Johns Hopkins University, effective April 6, 2015.

In his current position, Andy, who joined the Emory community in 2002, oversees relationship management and strategic collaborations with partners external to the Division of Campus Life, including faculty and key collaborators in the nine graduate and undergraduate divisions. He serves also in an interim capacity as Assistant Vice President for Community, where he provides leadership for the Barkley Forum Center for Debate Education, Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Center for Student Leadership and Community Engagement, health promotion, residence life, sorority and fraternity life, and student conduct.

Previously, as Emory’s chief residence life officer for seven years, Andy led residence life’s participation in integrating academic engagement with residential education. The change included the addition of three residentially based academic advising centers, enhancing the Faculty-In-Residence program, and creating an undergraduate residential experience based on each year of a student’s matriculation. Andy also served as chief student conduct officer for four years, working in alignment with the undergraduate academic divisions to develop and uphold community standards.

“Andy has made a huge and positive impact on the Emory community, especially in the lives of our students,” said Senior Vice President and Dean of Campus Life Ajay Nair. “Among his many contributions, Andy has advised a range of student groups such as the Residence Hall Association, Student Hardship Fund, and 1836 Dinners, and he reimagined the Student Leadership Roundtable. Somehow, he also found time to direct independent research for more than 20 undergraduate students.”

Andy has authored more than 20 publications and presented over 35 conference sessions on academic and student affairs partnerships, inclusion and advocacy education, and assessment in higher education. He serves also as a Lecturer in Emory College’s Sociology Department and Educational Studies Department and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the University of Georgia’s College of Education.

“We will miss Andy’s very capable and caring dedication to the ongoing work of Campus Life,” Nair said. “And we wish him the best in his new role.”
