Old
Glory flew at half-staff last week on the Quadrangle in honor of the
crew of the space shuttle Columbia, which broke apart as it reentered
Earth's atmosphere the morning of Feb. 1. Emory joined the rest of the
nation in mourning the tragedy, which had professional and even personal
connection with the University; urologist Leland Chung's was one of
84 scientific experiments being conducted by the Columbia crew, shown
here in an image that was taped to the Quad’s flagpole. "The
astronauts were so courageous; they felt like our partners," said
Chung, who was studying prostate cancer growth under zero-gravity conditions.
