The first snowstorm of 2002 closed the University for a day-and-a-half, Jan. 3 and 4. Atlanta was blanketed by up to five inches of the white stuff from a storm that swept up from the Gulf of Mexico and dropped winter precipitation along the Eastern Seaboard. Schools and business across the metro area shut down on Jan. 3, and for many Emory employees, the winter break seemed to last a day or two longer. Photo by Kay Hinton.

Crawford Long Hospital joined forces with Midtown Atlanta businesses during the holiday season in the Olive Tree Initiative: an affirmation and celebration of the values that hold a community together. [The idea of the olive branch] is a core component of who Atlanta is, said Emory Hospitals CEO John Henry. The project culminated Dec. 20 with the planting of eight new olive trees in Crawford Longs new J. Mack and Nita Robinson Conservatory. Photo by Jon Rou. |
