25 years of breast cancer awareness features a month of events


National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is celebrating over 25 years of awareness, empowerment and education this October. And the Emory Breast Center and Emory's Winship Cancer Institute are hosting a variety of events all month long around the metro Atlanta area.

Some highlights are:

• Free clinical breast exams for Emory employees at the east clinic of the Emory Breast Center on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. with Toncred Styblo, surgical director of the breast center. 

• Extended hours for mammogram screening, including the Saturdays of Oct. 8, 15 and 22 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Emory Midtown and extended hours until 7 p.m. at Winship on Oct. 17, 19 and 20.

• The first annual 5K Winship Run on Saturday, Oct. 15 at McDonough Field.
