ENDI for High School Students

We are offering four options for the Emory National Debate Institute this year:

June 3-9, 2018:   Fundamentals of Debate, Deliberation, and Dialogue (check-in June 3 between 3-4:30 p.m.; check-out June 9 between 8:30-10 a.m.)

June 3-23, 2018:   3-week Advanced Policy Debate Institute (check-in June 3 between 3-4:30 p.m.; check-out June 23 between 8:30-10 a.m.)

June 10-23, 2018: 2-week Policy Debate Institute (check-in June 10 between 3-4:30 p.m.; check-out June 23 between 8:30-10 a.m.)

June 10-16, 2018:   Fundamentals of Debate, Deliberation, and Dialogue (check-in June 10 between 3-4:30 p.m.; check-out June 16 between 8:30-10 a.m.)

June 3-12, 2018:  10-day Public Forum Debate Institute (check-in June 3 between 3-4:30 p.m.; check-out June 12 between 8:30-10 a.m.)

Fundamentals of Debate, Deliberation, and Dialogue.  Have you heard about debate but aren't sure if it is something you would enjoy?  This is the institute for you.  During this week, you will learn the fundamentals of debate and argumentation, including what constitutes a good argument, evidence-based argumentation, and a practicum on persuasion.  If you decide during the week that debate is something you love, you can join the 2-week policy institute, which will start the day after this camp ends.  This camp will be led by Ed Lee, Executive Director of the Barkley Forum at Emory University, Brett Flater, Emory Debate alumnus, Teach for America alumnus, and current high school teacher and debate coach, and Cheryl Despathy, Emory Debate alumnae and Learning Designer at The Galloway School.

One-week Session June 3-9, 2018 (Residential tuition $850, Commuter tuition $700)

One-week Session June 10-16, 2018 (Residential tuition $850, Commuter tuition $700)

Policy Debate. This division is best-suited for students who have the opportunity to debate competitively in policy debate during the regular academic year as students will focus on the upcoming high school topic. Two-week Session June 10-23, 2018.  (Residential tuition $1,700, Commuter tuition $1,400) Most students will attend this session tailored to the experience level of the student.

Three-Week Option June 3-23, 2018. (Residential tuition $2,550, Commuter tuition $2,100) A limited number of spaces will be available for experienced students to receive three weeks of intensive instruction under the supervision of Emory’s well-qualified and successful coaches.

Public Forum. This division is best-suited for students who have the opportunity to debate competitively in public forum during the regular academic year as students will learn the nuances of competitive public forum debate. Ten day Session June 3-12, 2018. (Residential tuition $1,200, Commuter tuition $1,000) Under the direction of an experienced and successful high school Public Forum coach, this institute will provide students the opportunity to develop the skills needed for success in the growing area of Public Forum debate.
