Steve Compton of the Candler Children’s Initiative carries food for Atlanta’s hungry like it was a sack of potatoes— which it was. The theology student organization organized Emory’s first “Potato Drop,” held on campus Feb. 5, to distribute 45,000 pounds of potatoes to metro area food organizations like the Atlanta Food Drive. Candler Dean Russell Richey heaved the first bag of spuds onto the loading truck. Photo by Jon Rou.

Five Emory College students received Humanitarian Awards at a ceremony held Jan. 30 in Winship Ballroom. The five were (clockwise from top left) junior Christopher Richardson and seniors Sarah Langley, Elaine Lo, Whitney Allsopp and David Roemer. Each was honored for “demonstrating honesty, integrity and responsibility; for special acts of courage and friendship; and for committing significant amounts of time and energy to serving others.” AID Atlanta Executive Director Tony Braswell was the keynote speaker at the event.
