Welcome. Whether this is your first interaction with Emory University, or your millionth, we extend a warm welcome and offer our pledge to make your time with us—online, or at one of our signature events—enjoyable, memorable, and worthy of this destination university.
Our mission is to define and continually refine the presidential standard of hospitality at Emory, and to extend that standard to all Emory events through educational opportunities, event-planning resources, and creative collaborations with Emory faculty, staff, and student event planners.
The Office of University Events (formally the Office of University Events and Convocations) was founded in 2005 as part of the Operations division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR). From 2005 to 2009, the University Events office produced over 400 events including several signature events. During that same period, the office received several awards and recognitions and has helped to set a standard of excellence for events produced at Emory.
Education and Collaboration
In September 2009, the Office of University Events launched the Emory Events Exchange, an educational forum and support network for campus event planners, venue managers, and those who service or are affected by events on campus. The program features both online interaction as well as formal gatherings with presentations, product demonstrations, tastings, and panel sessions. Venue and vendor tours complete the education component and offer new and long-time campus event professionals a chance to learn, network, and collaborate in a new forum.
Simultaneously, the Office of University Events launched this website featuring unique event planner resources. These resources will include Emory-specific protocol and event guidelines and a comprehensive guide to the most used campus venues. Using state-of-the-art CAD programs, these venues have been digitally rendered to provide a virtual tour of the venues. Furthermore, the most commonly used event setups (down to the silverware and linens) are represented within these photo-realistic virtual settings to provide the event planner and client a preview of what to expect. These renderings can then be provided to the venue managers, facilities staff, and rental companies to allow for faster, less expensive, and more accurate room setups.
The Office of the Vice President and Secretary of the University
In recognition of the more central role that the office plays within Emory, the Office of University Events transitioned from DAR to the Office of the Vice President and Secretary of the University on September 1, 2009. This office, headed by Dr. Rosemary M. Magee, serves the university by:
Promoting effective governance among the Board of Trustees, the University Senate, the Emory Alumni Board, the Student Government Association, and other constituencies of the University;
Supporting intellectual engagement, community, and leadership throughout the University by facilitating communication and collaboration;
Enhancing the traditions and practices of honorary degrees;
Preserving institutional memory by maintaining the official record of the Board of Trustees and preparing for the future through strategic planning;
Upholding Emory's mission to create, preserve, teach, and apply knowledge in the service of humanity.
